Today, the NEA announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million distributed nationwide, according to the release, and celebrates 50 years of nurturing the arts across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe arts are part of our everyday lives, no matter who you are or where you live,\u201d said NEA Chairman Jane Chu in a statement. \u201cThey have the power to transform individuals, spark economic vibrancy in communities and transcend the boundaries across diverse sectors of society. Supporting projects like the one from the Arts Council for Long Beach offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The funds will be used to expand the Arts Council\u2019s efforts to market Long Beach as a \u201cvibrant, cultural community,\u201d the announcement stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited that the NEA award will bring additional resources to Long Beach and align with the City-funded initiative to support economic development through the creative sector, said Arts Council Executive Director Victoria Bryan in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A major facet of the Arts Council\u2019s strategic plan is to promote the city\u2019s dynamic arts and cultural sector, according to the release.
