Like the formerly portly actor, Duncan, with a lot of help from his foster friends, is shedding pounds quicker than fur, and he’s now down to 21. He’s lost the equivalent of a normal-size cat.

Duncan then. Photos courtesy of Helen Sanders CatPAWS.

Duncan now.

Helen Sanders CatPAWS pulled Duncan from a shelter at the busiest time of year. He had an irregular heartbeat and was as big as a house. Now with a foster, he’s eating a special diet and getting plenty of exercise. He has his own Facebook page, too.

Duncan’s not quite ready for his close-up for the CatPAWS adoption page, but we do have a few candidates here. To learn more about each one, click the link above. All photos courtesy of Helen Sanders CatPAWS.

With a name like Adeline, it might seem like a cliché to add Sweet in front of her name, but the fact is that it’s an understatement. Adeline was pulled from the shelter with her newborn kittens. All the kittens have been weaned and have gone to good homes, but Adeline remains to be adopted. Here’s the thing: That kitten you see her nuzzling isn’t hers! Even though she’s been spayed, she treats every kitten that comes into her foster area as her own. She’s CatPAWS’s resident den mother! If you’re looking for a kitten (CatPAWS has plenty of those) and were thinking of maybe getting two cats, Adeline’s your girl.

Orange cats are special, and Victoria (left) and Sydney are especially special. They’re fighters and survivors of what had been a challenging and heartbreaking litter. They were all taken from a shelter with Mom the day they were born and would have been euthanized had not CatPAWS stepped in to pull them. Mom developed a viral infection and could no longer nurse all seven of the kittens, and they all needed to be bottle-fed. One was smaller and more sickly than the rest and succumbed quickly. All had respiratory infections. Victoria developed an eye infection that cost her an eye. Another kitten had infected eyes, which caused the eyelids to adhere to and obscure his eyes; he needed surgery to regain some vision.

Victoria and Sydney are playful, funny, loving and happy little cats even after all they’ve been through! They love playing together and would be ideal as an adopted pair.

Peekaboo! She sees you! This is sweet Hannah, one of the lucky few who beat the odds and emerged alive from a shelter at which about 85% of the cats who enter do not. She has that adorable habit of falling over and begging to be picked up or have her belly rubbed. That little spot on her nose is adorable! She is so grateful just to be alive.

Many of the cats and kittens that CatPAWS has to adopt to good homes can be met in person at Petco, Marina Shores Shopping Center, 6500 Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach; and at PetSmart, The Shops at Rossmoor, 12341 Seal Beach Boulevard, Seal Beach.
