Weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, the first 2021 baby born at the MemorialCare Miller Children\u2019s & Women\u2019s Hospital Long Beach was delivered at 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, hospital officials said.<\/p>\n

First-time parents Matthew and Kimmie of Huntington Beach named their baby boy Jacob, according to hospital spokeperson Cayla Wahl<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile 2020 was a tough year for everyone, we did have some exciting things happen,\u201d Kimmie said. \u201cWe got engaged, got married, bought a house and found out we were pregnant. Jacob was born 3.5 weeks early, but meeting him was a great way to start 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthew and Kimmie received a special \u201cFirst Baby Basket\u201d \u2014 stuffed with onesies, booties, newborn clothing, receiving blankets, diapers and gifts for the new parents from the hospital too.<\/p>\n

Later that day, first-time mother Jennifer Catalan of Harbor City gave birth to another New Year’s Day baby at the St. Mary Medical Center, according to spokesperson Lysa Barry.<\/p>\n

Catalan’s baby girl, Ainhoa, was born at 3:15 p.m. and weighed 7 pounds and 8 ounces.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m thankful for all the staff who helped in my delivery and happy that I delivered here,\u201d the mother said through the hospital spokesperson.<\/p>\n
