The 50th Anniversary has arrived: the Long Beach Camerata Singers are set to debut this year\u2019s season, their 50th<\/a>, on Sunday in the Long Beach City College Auditorium.<\/p>\n

The legendary performers will bring to life Joy, Fantasy and Remembrance: a 50th Anniversary Celebration<\/em>. The program is geared toward audience members of all walks of life, performing a range of hits, from Beethoven\u2019s Choral Fantasy<\/em> to Jenni Brandon\u2019s We Are Joy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The program celebrates our long history performing masterworks of the past as well as our dedication to education and music of the future,\u201d said the Camerata Singers\u2019 Artistic Director Robert Istad in a statement.<\/p>\n

Notably, Choral Fantasy<\/em> features a solo by Timothy Durkovic, one of the nation\u2019s best pianists, according to a release issued by the Camerata Singers.<\/p>\n

Another highlight includes the performance of Tarik O\u2019 Regan\u2019s choral piece Tryptych<\/em>, which is a meditation on eternity and a eulogy for those who have come before us.<\/p>\n

A poetry reading by Henry Saltzgaver precedes the finale, a premiere of We Are Joy!<\/em> by Long Beach composer Jenni Brandon. The piece seeks to connect Beethoven\u2019s Choral Fantasy<\/em> to modern life, replicating the same forces, according to the Camerata Singers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Long Beach Camerata Singers commissioned Jenni not only as a commemoration of our 50th Anniversary, but to uphold our commitment to foster the choral music of the future,\u201d said Istad in a statement.<\/p>\n

The performance begins at 4:30PM, after a pre-performance lecture by Jenni Brandon. Tickets are $30 for general seating, $40 for preferred seating, and $10 for students (at the door with an ID), and can be purchased online at LBCamerata.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Long Beach City College Auditorium is located at 4901 Carson Street.<\/em><\/p>\n
