The&nbsp;<em>Post<\/em>&nbsp;has five suggestions for you to kick start the first official weekend of fall for 2015, in style.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-43880\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/11887869_10155900853600307_8830142009538889884_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>File photo.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Get ready to enjoy Retro Row\u2019s finest all at once on Saturday, when dozens of restaurants and stores are slated to open for a happy hour celebrating the end of the summer. From 2:00PM to 6:00PM, the event, titled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/four-on-4th-happy-hour-to-engage-4th-street-patrons-with-happy-hour-on-september-26\/\">\u201cFOUR on 4th,\u201d<\/a><\/strong> is a ticketed party open to the public, featuring food, wine, beer and live music on Long Beach\u2019s famous Fourth Street. \u201cFOUR on 4th\u201d is short for \u201cfour hours, four specials.\u201d&nbsp;Tickets are available for pre-sale ($20 for general admission and $30 for VIP admission) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/\">www.eventbrite.com<\/a> or the event tab on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/4thStreetLB\">www.facebook.com\/4thStreetLB<\/a> or Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/instagram.com\/explore\/tags\/4thstlb\/\">@4thStreetLB<\/a>.&nbsp;Proceeds from FOUR on 4th will go toward the purchase and placement of new solar-powered recycling and trash receptacles along Retro Row, in an effort to keep the popular neighborhood clean.<\/p>\n<p>The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center\u2019s free Arts for Life series&nbsp;<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/arts-culture\/shakespeare-aloud-arts-for-life-series-to-move-home-to-uam-s-new-permanent-collection-gallery\/\">Shakespeare Aloud<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>will resume inside a new home, as it returns on Saturday for the 2015-2016 season. The University Art Museum (UAM) will host the series inside its newly renovated Permanent Collection Gallery, a truly grand location that showcases both performances and visual art outstandingly well.&nbsp;It will be the exhibit&#8217;s third season and&nbsp;21st event. <em>As You Like It<\/em> will be read, one of Shakespeare\u2019s most frequently performed comedies. Doors open at 10:45AM and the reading begins at 11:00AM.&nbsp;Reservations are encouraged for this free event. Bimbo Bakers USA, the U.S. division of Grupo Bimbo, is kickstarting a&nbsp;<strong>Global Energy Race 10K<\/strong>&nbsp;on Sunday. The race will commence at Marina Green Park in Long Beach, just three hours after the same race begins in Philadelphia. Other cities around the world will also participate, with the first race taking place in Beijing at 9:00AM Beijing Standard Time. If you&#8217;re looking to run, register on the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalenergyrace.com\/en\">website<\/a>&nbsp;and lace up your running shoes.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking to get your groove on, the sounds of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.longbeachindependent.com\/2015\/09\/local-show-pick-of-the-week-bootleg-orchestra-king-kang-and-the-black-noise-que-sera\/\">Bootleg Orchestra, King Kang and the Black Noise at Que Sera<\/a> may do just the trick. Scheduled to &#8220;bring the heat&#8221; on Sunday, September 27, the show will kick off at 9:00PM with an entry fee of $5 at the door. The crowd must be 21-plus to enjoy the festivities. Hurry along\u2014it looks to be well worth the trip.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s taking in grand sculptures out of unconventional building materials. Last Thursday, over 10,000 lbs. of canned goods were used to construct numerous 10\u2019 x 10\u2019 x 10\u2019 structures and will be donated to local nonprofit Food Finders food rescue\/bank to help alleviate hunger within the Long Beach community.&nbsp;According to&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #79b2ce;\" href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/2nd-annual-long-beach-canstruction-competition-to-alleviate-hunger-through-innovative-design-3\/\">the May 2015 article<\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/local-architects-to-build-canned-food-structures-to-alleviate-hunger-in-long-beach\/\">CANstruction events<\/a><\/strong> have been held in over 140 cities across the globe, resulting in 15 million pounds of canned food collected for the cause.&nbsp;Five teams composed from seven local architectural and engineering firms made up this year&#8217;s participants: Environ Architecture partnering with California Resources Corp., Moffatt &amp; Nichol Engineers, C\/A Architects, P2S Engineering partnering with MHP Structural Engineers and SCS Engineering.&nbsp;The completed structures will be on display to the public through this Sunday, September 27.
