Long Beach native and Poly High School alum Brandon Deutsch has been on a tear on “Jeopardy!<\/a>” this week, winning the show Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and racking up a three-day winning total of $70,026 in the process.<\/p>\n

Deutsch has been on “Jeopardy!” at an interesting time in the show\u2019s history. “Jeopardy!” has been on the air for 37 years and is the most-awarded game show in Emmy history. The show rose to iconic status in American culture during the nearly 8,000-episode tenure of host Alex Trebek, also known locally as a former Grand Prix of Long Beach Pro\/Celebrity race contestant<\/a>. After Trebek\u2019s death last year, the show has been in search of a new host, and is continuing this spring with guest hosts.<\/p>\n

Deutsch has won all three episodes hosted so far by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Both Rodgers and Deutsch are UC Berkeley grads, a fact that\u2019s been played up by both on the show this week.<\/p>\n

According to “Jeopardy!” analytics site The Jeopardy Fan<\/a>, Deutsch has been excelling due to his strategy as much as his knowledge, as the site notes he\u2019s 4\/4 on Daily Doubles and 3\/3 on Final Jeopardy clues.<\/p>\n

Deutsch was a member of Poly\u2019s prestigious PACE Academy, a leading academic magnet in the city since its founding 50 years ago. While a student at Poly, Deutsch founded the school\u2019s Donate Life Club<\/a> as a way of encouraging organ donation, and helped decorate the Rose Parade float for the organization his senior year.<\/p>\n

Fellow Poly PACE alum Drew Buggs, a college basketball player at the University of Missouri, noted that Deutsch\u2019s success wasn\u2019t a surprise to anyone who had class with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cBro had all the answers in class at Poly when the teacher would ask this is not surprising,\u201d Buggs tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n
