School starts Monday, and everyone\u2014college students, professionals and families alike\u2014is experiencing one of the last weekends of summer. How to live this last weekend accordingly, like it may be your last? We’ve compiled a list of the top four things to do this weekend…the last one is up to you. <\/p>\n

Buttstock & Blunder, a solo art exhibit featuring the \u201csweetie booshed disarray\u201d of local artist Emily Maddigan<\/a>, will take 4th Street Vine by storm with an opening reception on Friday, August 21 from 7:00PM to 11:00PM. You can see Maddigan\u2019s collection, being shown for the first time, through Friday, October 24. The show spans multiple creative styles and examines perspectives of minimalism, social philosophies and the natural and unnatural beauty that surrounds us, according to the announcement. So basically, anything goes.<\/p>\n Then there’s all things naturale. <\/em>The third annual Natural and Holistic Baby Expo (NAHBE) and Boobie-Palooza<\/a>\u2014yes folks, you read it right, Boobie-Palooza\u2014will take place this Saturday, August 22 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Long Beach, to bring together families and expectant parents for a fun and informative day to celebrate and learn about child-rearing, the natural way. Boobie-Palooza, founded in 2011 in Orange County by Dr. Elliot Berlin, the prenatal care specialist behind the Informed Pregnancy<\/a> project, has joined forces with NAHBE to make this year\u2019s event even more of a success. Grab your kid and get going! <\/p>\n Keep that kid in tow, because the Eighth District’s Councilmember Al Austin is here to help you. On Saturday, Austin and various community partners will host the \u201cBack to School Summer Blast<\/a>\u201d event from 11:00AM to 3:00PM at \u201cPops\u201d Davenport Park off of Paramount Boulevard. More than 1,000 kids will receive free backpacks full of school supplies, free haircuts, health screenings, resource information and food. In addition to providing backpacks and medical screenings, event festivities will also include a soccer clinic, a jumper, an obstacle course, arts and crafts, face painting, an opportunity drawing, and free space for kids of all ages to roam about. Carpe diem\u2014and get prepared for school, while you’re at it. <\/p>\n Finally, there’s that ultimate beach volleball sesh for sports fans everywhere. ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball<\/a> is serving up concerts and thrilling finals as volleyballers from across the world vie for a qualifying spot at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. On Saturday, Adam Lambert and the American Authors will be performing to an enthusiastic crowd, while Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games <\/em>will be making an appearance at the celebrity match, which will raise funds for the charity Straight But Not Narrow. Both days feature televised coverage by NBC of professional volleyball matches, including the likes of three-time gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and 2008 Olympic Gold medalist Phil Dalhausser.
