Thursday, April 22 is Earth Day, as such we’ve gathered some opportunities you can take part in to help spruce up your community. Plus, we’ve got live music, a health fair, new makers market and a science cruise around the coast.<\/p>\n

PALOS VERDES EARTH DAY BEACH CLEAN-UP\u2014SAN PEDRO (Thursday)<\/h3>\n

Drug and alcohol recovery non-profit The Phoenix are looking for volunteers to help clean up Palos Verdes Beach on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22.<\/p>\n

The Phoenix will supply participants with equipment and extra masks if needed, they only request that volunteers be at least two days sober if they want to participate.<\/p>\n

EXPLORE THE COAST ON A TALL SHIP\u2014L.A. MARITIME INSTITUTE (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Explore the San Pedro coast on a tall ship, for free, with the Los Angeles Maritime Institute Saturday, April 24. This three-hour excursion, geared toward raising awareness about environmental pollution will include hands-on scientific activities for children and adults, in addition to docent-led talks about the coast.<\/p>\n

What’s more, the experience is bilingual, the only bilingual marine environmental tour in all of California, said Mark Friendman who developed the proposal for the program’s conservancy grant.<\/p>\n

The ship departs at 4 p.m. from San Pedro Ports O\u2019 Call Harbor, sails around the harbor and coastline and returns.<\/p>\n

LONG BEACH BLACK HEALTH COMMUNITY FAIR\u2014BETHANY CHURCH (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

With the mission to support and inform Long Beach Black residents of healthy living and prevention against the COVID-19 virus, Bethany Church, Long Beach Ministers Alliance, Craft + Light Creative Arts Studio and Long Beach Medical Center have organized the Black Health Community Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24.<\/p>\n

Visitors will receive free COVID-19 health packages on arrival and can participate in a domino tournament, socially distant line dancing classes and arts and crafts stations for children.<\/p>\n

Long Beach Memorial Care will also be giving out 200 free COVID-19 vaccines in addition to health screenings. For a complete list of scheduling, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

EARTH DAY CLEAN-UP\u2014DOMINGUEZ GAP WETLANDS (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Those who might have been unable to participate in an Earth Day clean-up day can join the Puente Youth Association at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Dominguez Gap Wetlands.<\/p>\n

Participants are asked to bring their own masks, gloves and water and are encouraged to arrive on bicycle if possible.<\/p>\n

Meet-up is at the pavilion at the southwest end of the wetlands, enter at the Wetlands Trailhead at 4067 Del Mar Ave.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID BURNHAM LIVE – THE GRAND (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Broadway leading man David Burnham will kick off Musical Theatre West’s return to live performances with an in-person concert outdoors at The Grand event center Saturday, April 24.<\/p>\n

Tickets and seating are limited due to coronavirus restrictions, but tickets are $75 each with tables of two and four still available. Tickets must be purchased in advance, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Grand is at 4101 E. Willow St. parking will be free.<\/em><\/p>\n

LONG BEACH SUNDAY MARKET (Sunday)<\/h3>\n

On the corner Fourth Street and Alamitos Avenue, discover local vendors selling food, art, vintage and handmade goods Sunday, April 25.<\/p>\n

This new market’s mission is to foster growth in the small business community by giving fledgling businesses an accessible platform and environment to get started.<\/p>\n

STARLIGHT ON THE BLUFF (Sunday)<\/h3>\n

Organized by Starlight Projects Foundation<\/a>, a nonprofit that focuses on community activism through art, the free event features live bands and electronic artists performing at The Bluff Sunday, April 25 from 2 p.m. until dusk.<\/p>\n

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, snacks and whatever else. Event is both family and pet friendly. Attendees are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing protocol.<\/p>\n
