Aren&#8217;t we all?<\/p>\n<p>Catch a music and magic variety show and virtual jazz performance along with an evening bike ride in honor of gay pride. Make sure to check out an artists market and a new art gallery by students from Cal State Long Beach. And if you&#8217;re feeling like giving back, we&#8217;ve got a city-wide clean-up and a brain cancer awareness event you can support.<\/p>\n<p>Get to scrollin&#8217;!<\/p>\n<h3>FRANK MEYER VARIETY SHOW\u2014THE GOOD BAR (Wednesday)<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000036568\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000036568\" style=\"width: 1110px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10000036568 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/08032220\/78652076_446198986083731_3567402297073860608_o-e1620851525863-1110x963.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1110\" height=\"963\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000036568\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brian Coakley (left) and Frank Meyer performing at Alex&#8217;s Bar. Photo by Steve Allen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Local musician <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/getting-let-go-at-work-allowed-veteran-musician-frank-meyer-to-let-go-creatively\">Frank Meyer<\/a>, known by most as the frontman for the veteran LA Punk outfit <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/raise-a-glass-to-the-streetwalkin-cheetahs-new-album-one-more-drink\">Streetwalkin&#8217; Cheetahs<\/a>, is playing a residency at the Good Bar south of Rose Park that promises a night of comedy, magic, music and mayhem.<\/p>\n<p>Though Meyer is bringing the music\u2014and maybe some mayhem\u2014the stand-up set will be by local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/trojanskinchris\/\">Christian Lopez<\/a> with magic from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/edwardjoseph45\/\">Edward Joseph.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meyer, accompanied by fellow Streetwalkin&#8217; Cheetahs member Dino Everett, will be performing a setlist of acoustic original music (solo and Streetwalkin&#8217; Cheetahs songs) and covers by Iron Maiden, New York Dolls, Van Halen and more.<\/p>\n<p>Keep a lookout for the weekly variety show, Meyer said, as they&#8217;ll be eventually bringing in other comedians and live entertainment such as burlesque.<\/p>\n<p>The show starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday May 12. Image courtesy Carpenter Center.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Carpenter Center and Cal State Long Beach Voices for Justice Series, which launched February this year, aims to foster a culture of inclusion and compassion by amplifying marginalized voices who discuss topics such as systemic racism, activism, social justice and equality through the lens of the arts.<\/p>\n<p>Their latest voice features Nicholas Payton, a Grammy-winning jazz musician and trumpet player from New Orleans. During this 45-minute discussion on Zoom, Payton will explore\u2014through performance and musings\u2014music&#8217;s invaluable role as a tool of expression, inspiration and activism.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the discussion portion of the stream will be CSULB music professor Ray Briggs.
