The AquaLink water taxi is scheduled to return to service Memorial Day weekend thanks to a partnership between Long Beach Transit and the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, the organizations announced Friday. The service has been suspended for over a year due to the pandemic but returns with free weekend-only service through July 4.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Long Beach emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic and we approach summer, this is the perfect time to cruise the Long Beach coast on the AquaLink,\u201d Michael Clemson, transit board of directors chair, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
To ensure social distancing, capacity is limited to 40 passengers and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the announcement. Fare collection will resume after July 4.<\/p>\n
The AquaLink will only operate between Alamitos Bay and the Aquarium of the Pacific dock. There will be no service to the Queen Mary, which has been shuttered since the onset of the pandemic with no announced plans for reopening.<\/p>\n
\u201cLong Beach\u2019s water taxis are beloved by residents and visitors alike, and are a trademark of summer in Long Beach,\u201d CVB President and CEO Steve Goodling said in a statement. \u201cWe encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the free service and visit all the fun stops along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
