The Long Beach Symphony goes contemporary next month, performing 20th-century music with William Eddins, music director of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, guest-conducting the show.<\/p>\n
The performance will open with living composer Joan Tower’s 1986 work, Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman #1<\/em>. which was inspired by Copland’s Fanfare for the Common <\/em>Man.<\/p>\n \u201cAmerican composers were not taken seriously in the classical arena until the 20th Century, but made up for lost time over the last 100 years,” said Kelly Ruggirello, executive director of the Symphony, in a statement. “The Symphony and guest Maestro Eddins are eager to showcase some of the best of the best, including Tower\u2019s more contemporary piece.\u201d<\/p>\n Other pieces in the performance will include Bernstein’s Facsimile<\/em> and Copland’s Rodeo<\/em>.<\/p>\n The show will take place on March 7 at 8:00PM in the Terrace Theater, located at 300 East Ocean Boulevard.
