The Long Beach-Qingdao Association invites residents of all cultures to learn about Chinese New Year with a public celebration next weekend.<\/p>\n
The event, slated for February 28, is a family-friendly celebration that includes Chinese cooking demonstrations, a lion dance, Chinese acrobats and a magic show.<\/p>\n
David Griffith, president of the Long Beach-Qingdao Association, which represents the sisterhood between Long Beach and Qingdao, China, said the event will be highlighted by a Chinese specialty dinner, Z Ultimate Self-Defense Martial Arts demonstration, a Poly High School musical performance and a silent auction that includes both Chinese and American items.<\/p>\n
There will also be children-friendly activities like a drawing corner, dragon drawing lesson, storytelling and more.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are embarking on our 30th anniversary this year,\u201d said Chairman Larry Uyeda in a statement. \u201cWe have packed the event with lots of food and fun. We invite locals to get a taste of China by joining us on Feb. 28! We thank our community partners, the Port of Long Beach and Long Beach City College for helping us to make this available to our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event is scheduled for February 28 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on the Long Beach City College Liberal Arts Campus, Room T-1200, located at 4901 East Carson Street.<\/p>\n
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door for attendees 18 and over; $25 in advance and $35 at the door for students; $5 in advance and $20 at the door for children 11 to 17; and admission for children 10 and under are always free.<\/p>\n
