{"id":27944,"date":"2021-12-19T07:58:23","date_gmt":"2021-12-19T15:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/hundreds-gather-for-celebration-of-filipino-culture-in-downtown-long-beach-festival"},"modified":"2021-12-19T11:03:50","modified_gmt":"2021-12-19T19:03:50","slug":"hundreds-gather-for-celebration-of-filipino-culture-in-downtown-long-beach-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/news\/hundreds-gather-for-celebration-of-filipino-culture-in-downtown-long-beach-festival","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds gather for celebration of Filipino culture in Downtown Long Beach festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Filipino culture was on display on Historic Pine Avenue Saturday, Dec. 18 where hundreds of people gathered to take part in the 4th annual Long Beach Parol Lantern Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The energy from the crowd was serene as they stared in awe at the live performances while the aroma of Filipino barbecue filled the area between Fourth and Fifth Street, the vendor&#8217;s never-ending line stretching from sidewalk to sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>And to make sure everything went along peacefully, a volunteer security guard stood by with a shirt that read &#8220;Kuya Protector.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The six-hour event highlighted the Filipino tradition of making parols, a five-point star-shaped lantern made from paper and bamboo, which symbolize hope and finding the light in the dark, according to organizers.
