For the 14th year in a row, students from Long Beach and beyond will have the opportunity to show off their skills in a spelling bee, presented by the Community Action Team, led by Justin Rudd.<\/p>\n

“Spelling is important to me,” Rudd said on the National Elementary School $1,000 Spelling Bee’s website<\/a>. “In my current profession as a publicist\/event planner, I have to do a lot of writing and reviewing of press releases. Good spelling and grammar are mandatory. When I send and receive e-mail messages, I like to make a good impression by sending documents that have perfect spelling, grammar and punctuation. I don’t like to rely on ‘Spell-Check.'”<\/p>\n

The bee is open for students throughout the U.S. currently enrolled in grades three through five. Public, private, parochial and home-schooled students are welcome to participate, and students do not need their school’s permission to participate, Rudd said.<\/p>\n

The participant who scores first place will win $1,000.<\/p>\n

Participant entry ranges from $5 to $30, depending on when the registration is received by. Spectator admission is $5 per person at the door.<\/p>\n

The spelling bee will be held on March 1 at 2:00PM at Bay Shore Church, located at 5100 East The Toledo.<\/p>\n
