March has a lot to celebrate. Women’s history, Mardi Gras, even St. Patricks Day in a couple of weeks. This weekend we’ve found a few events in line with these celebrations (except St. Patrick’s Day, you gotta wait for that) and more.<\/p>\n

JOHNNIE WALKER WHISKEY TASTING – BUNGALOW KITCHEN (Thursday)<\/h3>\n

Belmont Shore’s Bungalow Kitchen is hosting an intimate (30-person) Johnnie Walker whiskey tasting and three-course dinner on Thursday, March 3.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $125 for one person but considering that a typical entree at the restaurant goes for about $30, a three-course meal with tastings of both Johnnie Walker Black and Blue that you can order neat or in a craft cocktail is pretty remarkable.<\/p>\n

FIRST FRIDAYS – BIXBY KNOLLS (Friday)<\/h3>\n

Bixby Knolls most popular community event, First Fridays, is back for another evening of music, art and shopping and this month, in honor of Women’s History Month, it’s all about, well, women.<\/p>\n

The Artists Lot (4326 Atlantic Ave.) will feature the artwork and wares of 17 local women artists, with live music by Jupiter’s Heat, a female alternative R&B duo. Inside the Expo Arts Center will be a gallery featuring all women artists and throughout the blocks along the Bixby Knolls business corridor (along Atlantic Avenue between Cartagena Street and Claiborne Drive) will be live music from either all-women bands or DJs spinning tunes by female artists.<\/p>\n

First Friday runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and is always free to attend.<\/p>\n

First Fridays takes place along a stretch of Atlantic Avenue, but a good starting point is the Expo Arts Center at 4321 Atlantic Ave. <\/em><\/p>\n

MARDI GRAS MASQUERADE – WATERS EDGE WINERY (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Keeping the Mardi Gras spirit alive well past Ash Wednesday, Waters Edge Winery in Downtown is hosting a Mardi Gras masquerade party Saturday, March 5 with live DJs, New Orleans-inspired eats and, as you might expect, lots of wine.<\/p>\n

Guests are encouraged to dress up, don masks and load up on the bead necklaces. The evening will also include contests and giveaways, plus a glass of bubbly when you arrive.<\/p>\n

Waters Edge Winery of Long Beach is at 217 N. Pine Ave. <\/em><\/p>\n

GRITTY IN PINK CONCERT & ART EXHIBITION – ALEX’S BAR (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Gritty in Pink, a platform created to help better gender inequality in the music industry, is bringing 50+ women artists and musicians to Alex’s Bar Saturday, March 5 in a day-long concert in honor of Women’s History Month.<\/p>\n

The concert will feature live music and DJ sets from some of Southern California’s best female musicians and rising stars, including Latina rapper Reverie<\/a> and Philadelphia-raised rapper Whitney Peyton<\/a>, plus an all-girl jam session with Los Angeles and Long Beach musicians, including Myra Gallarza of local punk rock outfit Bad Cop Bad Cop<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the outdoor patio, guests can also check out the Punk Rock & Paintbrushes exhibition featuring 16 women artists.<\/p>\n

The show runs from 1-9 p.m. and is free to attend, but guests must be 21 or older and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.<\/p>\n
