{"id":2914,"date":"2014-12-15T22:08:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T22:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/life\/local-professional-athletes-visit-miller-children-s-patients-a-moral-boost\/"},"modified":"2014-12-15T22:08:36","modified_gmt":"2014-12-15T22:08:36","slug":"local-professional-athletes-visit-miller-children-s-patients-a-moral-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/local-professional-athletes-visit-miller-children-s-patients-a-moral-boost","title":{"rendered":"Local Professional Athletes Give Miller Children&#8217;s Patients a Boost in Morale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-33046\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Xander__Kaitlin.JPG\" alt=\"Xander  Kaitlin\" width=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photos courtesy of the Jessie Reese Foundation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Three-time Super Bowl Champion Willie McGinest, four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Kaitlin Sandeno and other local professional athletes joined the <a href=\"http:\/\/negu.org\/joy-jars\/\">Jessie Rees Foundation<\/a> at Miller Children\u2019s &amp; Women\u2019s Hospital Long Beach this morning on Monday, December 15 to help distribute JoyJars, encouraging kids fighting cancer to Never Ever Give Up (NEGU), as is the foundation\u2019s motto.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-33048\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Josh__Willie_McGinest.JPG\" alt=\"Josh  Willie McGinest\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>In 2011, 12 year-old Jessie Rees created and handed out 3,000 JoyJars herself during her 10-month fight against an inoperable brain cancer. She passed away in January 2012, yet her mission lives on. The foundation she started continues to offer care and moral support by distributing more than 95,000 JoyJars to kids who are fighting cancer across the U.S. and in 27 other countries. The foundation provides the JoyJars at no cost to the receiving hospitals and recipients and is completely funded through private donations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-33049\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Nick_Punto-_UCI.jpeg\" alt=\"Nick Punto- UCI\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" \/>JoyJars are 64-ounce plastic jars filled with new toys and activities to help lift the spirits of children fighting cancer.
