{"id":292,"date":"2019-01-11T12:41:33","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T20:41:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/?p=999934115"},"modified":"2019-01-11T12:41:33","modified_gmt":"2019-01-11T20:41:33","slug":"organic-fork-buffalo-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/food\/organic-fork-buffalo-spot","title":{"rendered":"The Organic Fork, Buffalo Spot owner&#8217;s health-centric spinoff, closes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While restaurants across the city have been closing for various reasons, ranging from <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/spot-cafe-belmont-shore-closes-rising-rents\/\">rent increases<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/babettes-feast-magic-lamp-close-up-shop-in-belmont-shore\/\">rising wages<\/a>, The Organic Fork is shuttering its windows simply because there wasn&#8217;t enough of a market to sustain a patronage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For those of us that liked it, loved it,&#8221; said\u00a0Dava Lazaro, marketing director of The Buffalo Spot. &#8220;But unfortunately, we were unable to create an audience that would allow to continue business. So we will continue to keep our lease here and re-open as The Buffalo Spot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The brainchild of Flores while he was growing the brand of The Buffalo Spot, The Organic Fork was both an homage to his Mexican heritage and his newfound love of natural, organic foods that eschewed excess lard and focused on proteins and vegetables.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_999934135\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-999934135\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Organic-Fork-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-999934135\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Organic-Fork-2-970x671.jpg\" alt=\"A torta from The Organic Fork. Courtesy of Yelp!\/Archel A.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After opening\u00a0inside Bixby Village Plaza next door to longtime East Long Beach staples Cha for Tea and Z Pizza, Flores offered many things made in-house from the best ingredients he could source: Bowl of bone broth for the weary and tired. Cups of solid esquites, tortas that garnered a following among the gluten-free crowd with its gluten-free bread option as well as the attention of vegans and vegetarians with its ample veggie-focused options.<\/p>\n<p>All served, mind you,\u00a0in plant-based and biodegradable to-go containers should you be dining at home or your office.<\/p>\n<p>However, the restaurant&#8217;s identity\u2014pricey for fast casual but cheaper than Tender Greens\u2014left the restaurant in a bit of a crisis when it came to finding a market in an area that is largely driven by college crowds and cheap eats.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We haven&#8217;t entirely given up on the concept,&#8221; Lazaro said. &#8220;We&#8217;re hoping to re-open in a market that can sustain the concept; it&#8217;s simply about finding a space that&#8217;s appropriate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The space is set to become The Buffalo Spot by next week.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Organic Fork is located at\u00a05726 E.
