Eleven Long Beach-based artists earned cash prizes in a contest to design aviation-themed coloring sheets intended for Long Beach Airport\u2019s travelers of all ages, airport officials announced this week.<\/p>\n

The airport, in collaboration with the Arts Council for Long Beach, received design submissions from more than 100 local artists of all ages. In this art contest, \u201cPlane to See,\u201d<\/a> the airport sought to update, diversify and localize its coloring sheets with \u201cuplifting illustrations\u201d related to the airport, its history, famous aviators, women in aviation and more, LGB said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Artists were encouraged to highlight Long Beach\u2019s diversity, the city\u2019s airport and its aviation history. LGB was founded in 1923 and is the oldest airport in California<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prizes of $500 were awarded to the five winners in the youth division, according to LGB. They were Janell Cobian of Cabrillo High School, Cadence Malaluan of Marshall Academy of the Arts, Alexander Payton of Millikan High School, Dalia Reyes of Cabrillo High School and Lynette Zapet of Cabrillo High School.<\/p>\n

Six adult winners also earned $500 prizes. They were Nathan Asplund, Jasmine Boyd, Margie Darrow, Jacki Hays, Andrea James and Curtis McGinnis. Asplund, Boyd and James each won more than one prize for submitting multiple works, LGB added.<\/p>\n

LGB said that the selected drawings are being printed and distributed at community events, and the coloring sheets also will be available to download here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
