Photo courtesy of Jose Zambrano.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jose Zambrano said he became a firefighter to help people\u2014but his assistance doesn&#8217;t end when the blazes have been battled and the lives have been saved. Starting tomorrow, Zambrano will run 100 miles, including a stretch through Long Beach, in full firefighter gear to honor his fallen brothers.<\/p>\n<p>Zambrano, who goes by the nickname &#8220;Fireman Joe,&#8221; has been&nbsp;a firefighter in El Segundo for five-and-a-half years, and will run through Long Beach as part of his run from Norco to Santa Monica, which will span two days.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-31285\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/fireman-joe-2.png\" alt=\"fireman-joe-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"346\" \/>During his run in full firefighter gear Zambrano, 43, will run 100 miles (earning $1K per mile) aiming to raise $100K for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, a nonprofit committed to rebuilding the lives of families of fallen firefighters and raising awareness.<\/p>\n<p>While Zambrano said running in full firefighter gear is challenging because of the heat and weight, it&#8217;s nothing he&#8217;s not used to.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have ran a total of nine marathons in full fire gear, ranging from the OC Marathon to the San Diego Rock &amp; Roll Marathon to the San Francisco Marathon, but this is my first 100 Ultramarathon in full fire gear,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he began running six years ago to help keep up his stamina and cardio endurance.<\/p>\n<p>His 100-mile run is sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firemansbrew.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fireman&#8217;s Brew<\/a>, a Los Angeles-based craft beer company founded by two firefighters.<\/p>\n<p> <object style=\"float: left; margin-right: 15px;\" title=\"Click Here to donate!\" data=\"\/\/funds.gofundme.com\/Widgetflex.swf\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"258\" height=\"338\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/\/funds.gofundme.com\/Widgetflex.swf\" \/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" \/><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"page=Remember-The-Fallen&amp;template=4\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><\/object> &#8220;The company is committed to giving back to the firefighter community upon which it was founded by donating a portion of company proceeds to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation \u2013 the nation\u2019s leading non-profit organization dedicated to honoring fallen firefighters and providing assistance to their surviving families,&#8221; Zambrano said.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Fireman\u2019s Brew, Zambrano said his goal is to raise $1M within the next five years for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in donating to Zambrano&#8217;s cause, &#8220;Remember the Fallen,&#8221; can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/remember-the-fallen\">visit his GoFundMe page<\/a>.&nbsp;A map of his route can be found by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapmyrun.com\/routes\/view\/517508686\">clicking here<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapmyrun.com\/routes\/view\/517508686\"><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jose Zambrano said he became a firefighter to help people\u2014but his assistance doesn&#8217;t end when the blazes have been battled and the lives have been saved.
