We’re already halfway through October so we’d be remiss if we did not include some Halloween-related events this weekend\u2014and we’ve found some fun ones. From a Halloween-themed craft beer festival and a witches tea party to a spooky Tiki celebration.<\/p>\n

Also worth checking out this weekend is a new art exhibition, theater production and a professional MMA fight with local fighter Eugene “Conquistador” Correa.<\/p>\n

LANDMARK THEATRE’S “RENT” (Friday – Sunday)<\/h3>\n

Long Beach’s Landmark Theatre Company, is returning to the stage with its production of “Rent” Friday, Oct. 21 at First Congregational Church.<\/p>\n

For the production, Landmark has enlisted a talented group of local and regional actors to bring to life the popular Broadway rock musical version of Puccini opera \u201cLaBoh\u00e8me,\u201d which reimagines the classic story about young artists in a big city searching for their voice and their future.<\/p>\n

SAN PEDRO FISH MARKET’S SHRIMPFEST (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

The San Pedro Fish Market’s second annual Shrimpfest seafood celebration returns Saturday, Oct. 22 with heaps of seafood, drink specials, live entertainment and its main event: a shrimp eating contest.<\/p>\n

The event will feature large plates of some of the restaurant’s most popular items, such as its World Famous Shrimp Tray, Chowda Fries, fried calamari, fried shrimp, beer-battered fish and more. Drink specials include $3 bottles of Corona and Modelo, $7 draft beers and other discounts on alcoholic beverages. The Happy Hour menu will also be served all day.<\/p>\n

If you see cameras around during the event, those belong to a documentary crew who are shooting the docuseries “Kings of Fi$h,” chronicling four generations of the San Pedro Fish Market families.<\/p>\n

EUGENE CORREA VS DAVID DOUGLAS (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Former Bellator fighter and mixed martial artist Eugene Correa, a Long Beach native, is returning to the ring for the first time in two years at the Commerce Casino for the Urijah Fabers A1 Combat tournament on Saturday, Oct. 22.<\/p>\n

Correa the “Conquistador” is going up against David “Tarzan” Douglas from Antioch in the catchweight division. Douglas, 40, is considered a veteran in the industry with fights dating back to 2004, however, Correa standing at 6-feet-tall and 29 years old holds a solid reputation coming off a two-win streak with a 4-2 professional record.<\/p>\n

Correa vs. Douglas is one of 10 fights slated for the evening, with a bantamweight title bout between Payton Talbott and Anthony Jimenez to close the show.<\/p>\n

HALLOWEEN HOOTENANNY (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Back for a second year at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), the Halloween-themed craft beer festival Halloween Hootenanny returns Saturday, Oct. 22.<\/p>\n

Over 40 independent craft breweries, cideries, wineries and hard kombucha makers will be available on-site to sample, plus food from local restaurants such as Shady Grove and Hamburger Nice.<\/p>\n

Attendees can also shop from a “macabre marketplace” featuring over 15 vendors selling art, books, clothing and other Halloween-centric merchandise.<\/p>\n

Guests must be 21 years or older to attend. General admission tickets start at $50 and include unlimited sample pours and a complimentary commemorative souvenir tasting glass. VIP tickets cost $70 and offer one-hour early entry (noon) as well as unlimited sample pours and a commemorative souvenir glass. Designated driver tickets cost $20. WITCHES TEA PARTY (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

The whimsical fairy playground that is Dream Come True Tea & Party Room in Bixby Knolls is transforming its space into a tea room fit for witches with the Witches Tea Party event on Saturday, Oct. 22.<\/p>\n

The tea party will include spooky desserts and treats, bottomless “witches brew” champagne, a teacup candle-making craft project, games and more. The event is open to both adults and children. Costumes are highly encouraged and the witch with the best costume will win a prize.<\/p>\n

CREATURE COMFORTS EXHIBITION (Sunday)<\/h3>\n

The Long Beach Museum of Art<\/a>‘s newest exhibition presents a collection of works by artist Brent Estabrook<\/a> titled “Creature Comforts.”<\/p>\n

The dental surgeon-turned-painter is best known for his large-scale oil paintings depicting furry, plush toys and stuffed animals, evoking sentiments of innocence and nostalgia. They’re also just a dazzling display of color.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, which opens publicly Sunday, Oct. 23, features over 20 pieces from his career over the years and some never-before-seen works. Those who would like to meet the artist and learn more about his work may also RSVP to a VIP sneak-peek on Saturday, Oct. 22, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Creature Comforts” will be up at the museum until Feb. 12. Entry to the museum costs $12; children 12 and younger may enter for free. LBMA members also receive free admission.<\/p>\n

HAUNTED HULAWEEN (Sunday)<\/h3>\n

Celebrate Halloween season with a Tiki twist Sunday, Oct. 23 at Secret Island Tiki Lounge for its Haunted Hulaween event in Downtown.<\/p>\n

Secret Island has decked out its already quite decorative Tiki lounge into a “creepy Tiki bazaar” that will feature live music, a Tiki marketplace, Tiki cocktails and even a haunted corn maze.<\/p>\n

The whole event will span three floors, where guests can also check out various bands, games and activities. Plus, Secret Island is fashioned like a speakeasy with hidden passages making the whole venue fun to explore.<\/p>\n
