Zagat has announced it\u2019s top 18 burgers in LA County\u2014we know, we thought the number was strange too, but they divided the eighteen into a top ten with eight honorable mentions\u2014and Long Beach\u2019s own Simmzy\u2019s scored a spot at No. 13<\/a> with its classic Simmzy\u2019s Burger.<\/p>\n

\"ScreenIf you haven\u2019t had the Simmzy\u2019s Burger, we suggest only one thing: order it medium rare (because if you don\u2019t, well, you don\u2019t deserve that poor bovine\u2019s sacrifice). Other than that, try to not alter what Chef Ann Conness has constructed. A bit of aged cheddar, some caramelized onions, their garlic aioli (which also doubles as a spectacular dipping sauce for the fries, FYI), some tomato and some lettuce. Voi-flippin\u2019-la: the Simmzy\u2019s Burger.<\/p>\n

Though not hitting the top 10<\/a>\u2014the top honor went to the most banal of burgers, the ever pervasive, SoCal-obsessed Double-Double from In-N-Out\u2014it is still impressive that the Belmont Shore eatery’s version of the American staple sits amongst burger powerhouses like the Slater 50\/50, Unami, and (my personal non-Long Beach favorite) The Hungry Cat’s Pug Burger.<\/p>\n

In the words of Zagat, \u201cWhen trying to narrow down the top 10 best burgers around the city, there are bound to be some favorites left off the list. Everyone has their own favorite, from fast-food cult classics to neighborhood spots and classic hidden-gem burger stands. Here are eight honorable mentions from this year’s best burger poll, including write-in favorites and high-scorers that just missed the top 10.\u201d<\/p>\n

Send your congrats to Simmzy\u2019s and, please, go to a one-of-a-kind place in Long Beach<\/a> rather than a ubiquitous burger chain found everywhere to celebrate one of America\u2019s greatest gift to the culinary world.<\/p>\n
