Whether you’re looking to get out and about to hear live music, shop or dine this weekend, we’ve found events around the city in Downtown and up in North Long Beach. We’ve found two local shows by local artists and included a major touring music show at the Terrace Theatre.<\/p>\n

This weekend will also see the introduction of a new food truck festival, art exhibition and open mic event staged in a plant shop.<\/p>\n

“STOMP” PERFORMING AT TERRACE THEATER (Thursday – Friday)<\/h3>\n

\u201cStomp,\u201d the internationally celebrated percussive show known for creating gritty rhythmic musical numbers out of everyday items like brooms, garbage cans and shopping bags, will be performing at the Terrace Theater this weekend, marking the show\u2019s first return to Long Beach in over a decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cStomp\u201d will be in town for two days on Thursday, March 2, and Friday, March 3, before continuing its U.S. tour. The 105-minute show will feature many of the iconic numbers (and props) audiences have seen before, such as the brooms, trash cans and the fan-favorite Zippo lighter performance. But this season \u201cStomp\u201d is introducing three new numbers, some of which have been reimagined with different props.<\/p>\n

Tickets for \u201cStomp\u201d at the Terrace Theater range from $43-78 and may be purchased online here<\/a> or by calling (800) 982-2787. Shows for \u201cStomp\u201d start at 8 p.m. on both days.<\/p>\n

FIRST FRIDAYS (Friday)<\/h3>\n

Bixby Knolls’ popular community event First Fridays is back for another evening of music, art and shopping, and this month the event is celebrating women in honor of March being Women’s History Month.<\/p>\n

Female musicians and DJs will be performing in various locations all along the business corridor, plus locals can check out art and handmade wares from female artists and businesses. Click here<\/a> to see the entire list of festivities.<\/p>\n

You can find the celebration for First Fridays throughout the blocks along the Bixby Knolls business corridor (Atlantic Avenue between Cartagena Street and Claiborne Drive).<\/p>\n

First Friday runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and is always free to attend.<\/p>\n

BLU AUX SHOW AT VINE (Friday)<\/h3>\n

Long Beach musician Jesse Wilder is no novice at bringing together talented musicians to create special concerts<\/a> that perform some of the most loved albums from front to back. But now the long-time musician is introducing something new and original with his band Blu Aux<\/a>, which will be performing tunes from its new album “Circle Sentences” at Vine on Retro Row Friday, March 3.<\/p>\n

“Circle Sentences” is an indie rock album that features all the ideas and experimenting Wilder had been toying with for several years before finding the time to record, with “baritone vocals over big harmonies and spacey odds and ends.” Also included in the lineup Friday night are bands the Killingtons and Andy Stavas.<\/p>\n

The show is free to attend and starts at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

ZANE JOHNSON JAZZ TRIO AT LONG BEACH BEER LAB (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

Grab a pint and catch a set of the Zane Johnson Jazz Trio, a music group that specializes in performing jazz music from the 1920s-1960s, at Long Beach Beer Lab Saturday, Feb. 4.<\/p>\n

While you listen, you can also play some pinball or grab a bite from Long Beach Beer Lab’s bakery and dining menu. The show is free to attend.<\/p>\n

LONG BEACH FOOD-A-LOOZA (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

A smorgasbord of food trucks and vendors will be gathering at Long Beach City College Saturday, March 4, for the inaugural Food-a-Looza, a new food pop-up created by Long Beach Living in collaboration with Long Beach Swap Meet.<\/p>\n

Over a dozen trucks and pop-ups offering a variety of cuisines and desserts are slated to show. The event will also feature a beer garden and live entertainment.<\/p>\n

Find the event on the corner of Alamitos Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway at LBCC\u2019s Pacific Coast Campus from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

RHYTHM & ROOTS (Saturday)<\/h3>\n

North Long Beach plant shop, Got A Leaf, and Sip Then Shop, a local artisan market, are hosting an open mic and shopping event Saturday, March 4.<\/p>\n

Guests can check out plants and other goods from other local businesses while enjoying drinks and snacks during the performances.<\/p>\n

The event starts at noon and runs until 3 p.m. Guests who arrive from noon to 12:30 p.m. may enter for free. After that, entry is $5 and includes a complimentary plant to take home.<\/p>\n

A new exhibition showcasing the talents of Cal State Long Beach’s Drawing and Paintings program will debut Sunday, March 5, at the Long Beach Creative Group\/Rodd Briggs Gallery.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, titled “Fragments: of self, of history, of identity,” features poignant and personal works from the program’s BFA and MFA students, much of which was devised during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

“Having undergone a forced two-year isolation in the recent past, this body of work is honest and unfiltered, exploring their most intimate personal narratives, revealing psychological and historical insights through a variety of approaches and media,” Yulia Gasio, assistant professor of foundation studies and drawing\/painting programs at CSULB, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Opening day is Sunday, March 5, from 1-4 p.m. The exhibition is free to attend.<\/p>\n
