An evening of powerful musical extremes, Long Beach Symphony presents Carl Orff\u2019s \u201cCarmina Burana\u201d and Ana Lara\u2019s \u201cAngeles de Llama y Hielo\u201d<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, March 11, at the Terrace Theater.<\/p>\n

Under the direction of Maestro Eckart Preu, Long Beach Symphony\u2019s orchestra, with soloists Anna Schubert, Ashley Faatoalia and James M. Schaefer, plus choral performances from Long Beach Camerata Singers, South Bay Children\u2019s Choir, and returning to Long Beach, the audience-favorite Silver-Garburg Piano Duo.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur world-class musicians, alongside three soloists, two choruses and a world-renowned piano duo make this a must-hear Long Beach Symphony classical concert,\u201d Long Beach Symphony President Kelly Ruggirello said.<\/p>\n

Orff\u2019s\u00a0\u201cCarmina Burana,\u201d\u00a0which debuted in 1937, is the German composer\u2019s most famous work. It\u2019s a vivid and musically engrossing suite of works based on several medieval poems exploring the joys of the tavern, nature, love and lust.<\/p>\n

Lara\u2019s\u00a0\u201cAngeles de Llama y Hielo\u201d\u2014or \u201cAngels of Fire and Ice\u201d\u2014ignites the stage with music by one of the most notable, versatile and respected Mexican composers of the modern age. Created in the early 1990s, the composition was inspired by the evocative poetry of her countryman Francisco Serrano. \u201cAngeles de Llama y Hielo\u201d is a meditative orchestral exploration of spirituality, encompassing the soul of symphony music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe combination of these two works by two talented composers provides audiences with a completely unique and captivating musical experience and speaks to the quality and diversity of our programming,\u201d Ruggirello said.<\/p>\n

The concert is part of the award-winning Long Beach Symphony\u2019s 88th season.<\/p>\n

Long Beach Symphony takes the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Long Beach Terrace Theater. Doors to the concert hall open at 6:30 for a 7 p.m. pre-concert talk that promises additional insights into the evening\u2019s music. Individual concert tickets start at $32.<\/p>\n
