The Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) will host its summer After Dark event on this coming Thursday, July 10, an event that occurs only twice a year.<\/p>\n

The nighttime affair should, at least in the eyes of the LBMA, not be missed. Art lovers and night owls alike can breathe an end-of-the-week sigh of relief as they gaze across the Pacific ocean, drink in hand, and absorb some of Long Beach\u2019s art and music culture as they meander through the current exhibit and get down to soulful tunes.<\/p>\n

This summer\u2019s After Dark will feature local bands No Silver Bird<\/a> and Fathers & Suns<\/a>, plus DJ Dennis Owens<\/a> of Good Foot<\/em> fame will be spinning vinyl for the dance party once the sun has set.<\/p>\n

Guests will be allowed to view The Paternal Suit: Heirlooms from the F. Scott Hess Family Foundation<\/em>, an exhibition of over 100 paintings, prints, and objects assembled by contemporary Los Angeles artist F. Scott Hess. Hess is largely known for his amusing and critical views of everyday human dysfunction, with paintings that show off visitors at Disneyland fleeing due to an oncoming storm or African-Americans playing Monopoly.<\/p>\n

The nighttime charade will also have an opportunity drawing and an After Dark customized food and beverage menu from Claire\u2019s At The Museum, LBMA’s accompanying restaurant.<\/p>\n

Past After Dark\u2019s have included live painting by local artists, screen printing workshops, performances by The Latin Jazz Syndicate, DJ Josh One and Bobby Soul, and opportunity drawings for bicycles, iPads and video games. <\/p>\n

After Dark is open to the general public for an admission price of $10. The event is free for existing members plus one guest and anyone who purchases a museum membership before July 10.
