{"id":343,"date":"2018-12-09T10:20:02","date_gmt":"2018-12-09T18:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/?p=999930481"},"modified":"2018-12-09T10:20:02","modified_gmt":"2018-12-09T18:20:02","slug":"in-pictures-it-was-christmas-again-on-daisy-avenue-thousands-turn-out-for-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/in-pictures-it-was-christmas-again-on-daisy-avenue-thousands-turn-out-for-parade","title":{"rendered":"IN PICTURES: It was Christmas again on Daisy Avenue; thousands turn out for parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 10,000 people lined Daisy Avenue for the 65th Annual Daisy Avenue Christmas Tree Lane Parade on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The parade stretched along Daisy from Willow Street to Pacific Coast Highway.<\/p>\n<p>Parade organizer Maria Norvell said that there were more than 70 entrants this year.<\/p>\n<p>The event was the brainchild of resident Gertrude Whittle who convinced the city to replace railroad tracks along Daisy Avenue with a grass median in 1953.\u00a0 A &#8220;Christmas Village&#8221; of displays along the median paved the way for a parade.<\/p>\n<p>Norvell took over the parade in 1988 and has been running the show ever since.\u00a0 Norvell made her way down Daisy this year, waving at the crowd from a pink convertible.
