{"id":3569,"date":"2014-01-06T21:42:47","date_gmt":"2014-01-06T21:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/life\/food\/mckenna-s-on-the-bay-closes-after-death-of-owner-but-airport-outpost-lives-on\/"},"modified":"2014-01-06T21:42:47","modified_gmt":"2014-01-06T21:42:47","slug":"mckenna-s-on-the-bay-closes-after-death-of-owner-but-airport-outpost-lives-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/food\/mckenna-s-on-the-bay-closes-after-death-of-owner-but-airport-outpost-lives-on","title":{"rendered":"McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay Closes After Owner&#8217;s Death, But Airport Outpost Lives On"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-27412\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mckennas.jpg\" alt=\"mckennas\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo courtesy of McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay Facebook<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Popular waterfront restaurant McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay may have officially closed its doors as of last week, but the institution&#8217;s year-old airport outpost&#8211;dubbed McKenna&#8217;s on the Fly&#8211;will continue to live on, LGB officials say.<\/p>\n<p>Bancap, the owners of Alamitos Bay Landing, the complex where McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay has served Long Beach and Orange County patrons for the last 10 years, announced January 2 that they were taking possession of the restaurant because the company had lapsed on its lease payments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;It&#8217;s ownership group (McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay LLC) has experienced financial challenges with the passing of its majority owner, and former managing member of the LLC, Nicholas Limer,&#8221; Bancap said in a statement announcing McKenna&#8217;s closure. A Bancap representative confirmed that the restaurant would be closed and no longer serving the public as of January 2 and that the company hopes to enter a lease with a similar tenant &#8220;in the near future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The closure of McKenna&#8217;s on the Bay is not anticipated to have any affect on the eatery&#8217;s Long Beach Airport location, which <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/food\/long-beach-airport-raises-the-bar-for-travel-food-2\/\">opened with a burger bar and small dining room<\/a> inside of the new state-of-the-art concourse in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The name, &#8216;McKenna&#8217;s,&#8217; is licensed through LGB&#8217;s managing concessionaire, Paradies, which assures us that business will continue as usual,&#8221; said LGB&#8217;s public affairs official&nbsp;Stephanie Montuya-Morisky.<\/p>\n<p>McKenna&#8217;s owner Limer succumbed to pancreatic cancer in November, after a two-year battle. In October, Limer had been found to be at fault in a traffic accident on Second Street that killed one motorcyclist and injured another. He <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/news\/investigation-continues-into-2nd-st-motorcycle-death\/\">was facing misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges<\/a> at the time of his death.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>McKenna&#8217;s on the Fly is located inside the north terminal at the Long Beach Airport,&nbsp;4235 Douglas Dr.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Read
