Multi-disciplinary artist Emily Babette has never really had a home, at least not in the typical sense of the word. Constantly on the move with her family between Canada, the U.S. and Australia, her artwork reflects her unsettled upbringing and the notion that the feeling of home is not limited to, say, the coziness of your mom\u2019s kitchen or your childhood bedroom.<\/p>\n

To Babette, home is more of a \u201cstate of mind or a place you carry inside yourself,” according to the artist.<\/p>\n

You can learn all about Babette\u2019s work at Flatline Gallery on Saturday, where she will be present to answer questions and talk you through the concept of her exhibit, \u201cHeart is Where the Home is.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the walkthrough you’ll see Babette’s\u00a0Heart Net<\/a>,<\/em> a dollhouse inside of a net hanging from an embroidered heart, playing with the idea that human emotions are centered in the heart and\u00a0Dollhouse<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>a giant, paper-cut piece that took five months to complete.<\/p>\n

“Heart is Where the Home is” artist walkthrough<\/a> will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25. The exhibit will be on view through June 14 at Flatline Gallery, 6023 Atlantic Ave. Hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
