Just months after winning five medals and being named Best Mid-Sized Brewpub of the Year<\/a> at the Great American Beer Festival, Long Beach’s Beachwood BBQ and Brewing has garnered even more acclaim for its beers.<\/p>\n

DRAFT Magazine, the country’s largest bi-monthly magazine dedicated to craft beer, named Beachwood Six–a smoked black saison brewed to commemorate the sixth birthday of the Long Beach brewpub’s sister Seal Beach location–one of the 25 best beers of 2013. <\/a><\/p>\n

In the magazine’s end-of-the-year issue, DRAFT’s beer editor Christopher Staten listed Beachwood Six along with 24 other bottled brews as ones that defined unpredictable beers that played on traditional beer styles while celebrating weirdness and experimentalization.<\/p>\n

“Beachwood\u2019s sixth anniversary beer is a wonderfully peculiar black saison brewed with malts smoked with the same woods the brewery uses for its barbecue,” Staten writes of Six. “The beer brims with clove, black pepper, hay, roast, hints of jasmine and smooth, dark smoke. It\u2019s bold, balanced and, naturally, the perfect match for a steak.”<\/p>\n

Though the beer was technically released in December 2012 during Seal Beach Beachwood’s Anniversary Week, 750ml bottles of Six were seen on shelves through mid-year. Beachwood Seven, a double IPA, will be released starting December 17 and the brewery’s winter seasonal Tovarish, a coveted coffee stout brewed with beans from Portola Coffee Labs in Costa Mesa, on December 27.<\/p>\n

“We feel so fortunate to have made it seven years and are lucky to have the support of such great customers,\u201d Beachwood\u2019s Owner Gabriel Gordon said of the upcoming anniversary beer. \u201cWe are so excited to celebrate this milestone with our friends, family and community.\u201d<\/p>\n
