Long Beach Cinematheque will be adding at least two new locations to their growing list of outdoor cinema venues this month, news sure to excite enthusiasts of catching classic and cult cinema under the stars, and with picnic baskets in tow.<\/p>\n
In partnership with Cal State University Long Beach\u2019s University Art Museum, the Cinematheque will be screening Roman Polanski\u2019s Rosemary\u2019s Baby<\/em> on October 3, and David Lynch\u2019s Eraserhead<\/em> on October 17. Both of these events are free of charge, and are being presented in partnership with UAM\u2019s latest exhibit, Gabe Bartalos: Abhorrence and Obsession<\/em>. Crediting their tremendous influence on both his work and on the art of cinema in general, award-winning artist Gabe Bartalos personally selected these two titles himself to complement his exhibit.<\/p>\n The screenings will take place on the garden adjacent to Los Alamitos Hall, on the CSULB campus.<\/p>\n On October 10, Sunnyside Cemetery opens its gates for outdoor cinema for the very first time, with a live-score screening of F.W. Murnau\u2019s silent classic Nosferatu<\/em>. Fresh off the success of last month\u2019s live-score treatment of The Artist<\/em> on top of the Long Beach Arena parking structure, the talented musicians of the Balboa Amusement Company Orchestra are once again teaming with the Cinematheque to bring this classic to new life with an original score.<\/p>\n “We are extremely excited to bring outdoor classic cinema to Sunnyside Cemetery, a beautiful and historic long beach location,\u201d said Long Beach Cinematheque Director Logan Crow. \u201cThe idea was met with immediate support and enthusiasm by Councilman James Johnson\u2019s staff, and we were so humbled to receive the same reception from Sunnyside. The Balboa Amusement Company Orchestra is already hard at work rehearsing their score, and I understand they\u2019re adding a few more musicians to their ensemble.
