Digital calendars may be handy, but they\u2019re no replacement for the ones you can hang in your kitchen and home office. Every year, Helen Sanders CatPAWS<\/a> features its Show Us Your Kitties rescue calendar in which adopters and fosters claw their way into getting their own CatPAWS felines as a featured cheesecat pose for a particular month or to purchase a date for each one.<\/p>\n

Readers may remember the nail-biting suspense of Coraline\u2019s disappearance and ultimate discovery by a very young child. She\u2019s now in a permanent, loving and safe home. Maya\u2019s is the ultimate example of accepting a loved one as they are and hoping for the best.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Jellicle Cats Rescue Foundation<\/a> also has an annual cat calendar. Jellicle Cats operates on a shoestring budget and really needs funding so that their cats, who often are taken from streets, sidewalks and yards, can be operated on at a veterinary and come out healthy and spayed or neutered.<\/p>\n

As you may or may not know, not all the kyats at Jellicle Cats Rescue are small, but these two are. Oreo and Chickpea aren\u2019t from the same litter but are most definitely a bonded pair. Adopt them both, buy the calendar, and bingo\u2014a baby photo of the family members in a year!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

All of the funds for both calendars support the needs of the adoptable cats: food, toys and medical care don\u2019t come cheap, particularly the latter. This sweet, sweet girl is\u00a0Daisy!<\/strong> She\u2019s a young adult, about 1 or 2, so she\u2019s old enough to have grown a mustache. She\u2019s full of happiness, and all she wants in life is cuddles and more cuddles.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Lucia<\/strong> is a stunning silver tabby. This young cat has had a pretty rough time of it. She was rescued last year along with her newborn kittens from a shelter where they were all about to be killed. She had a respiratory infection\u2014a cold, basically. Sadly, her kittens contracted that as well, and one by one they died, despite CatPAWS\u2019 efforts to save them. Lucia was adopted last year. Then, CatPAWS got a call recently that the adopter was somehow suddenly allergic and was moving, too. Adoption is not a lending library. Anyway, as is their policy, CatPAWS took her back and she is making the best of her new reality at the Petco adoption center. But she longs for a home of her own again, and hopefully, someone will come along, give her a home, and help her trust again.<\/p>\n

Meet Chickpea<\/strong>! Chickpea is about 6 months old. He was networked on Facebook as the \u201crain barrel kitten,: His sad story starts with being born in a backyard to a feral momma, where their caretaker watched helplessly as one kitten after another disappeared. So, the caretaker decided to keep the little Chickpea safe\u2014by keeping him in a rain barrel.\u00a0 In spite of that lonely time, Chickpea is a very social, loving kitty. That is, when he\u2019s still. When he is in motion, he\u2019s a whirlwind of fun!<\/p>\n

And meet Oreo<\/strong>, about 8 months old! Oreo was rescued by a kind lady who lived in an RV and asked Jellicle Cats to help him find a home. He can most often be found playing or napping with his BFF Chickpea, and he is absolutely a champion at \u201cmaking biscuits\u201d as he settles in for bedtime.<\/p>\n

Haute Dogs\u2019 Operation Santa Paws: <\/strong>Saturday, Dec. 22, 11:30 a.m.\u20133:30 p.m., Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS), 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, distribute toys, treats and necessities to pets in four shelters<\/p>\n

Santa Paws himself (you may know him as Justin Rudd) and his helpers (you) will bring toys and goodies to all the good cats, dogs and bunnies and cleaning supplies for the staff in three shelters: Long Beach Animal Care Services<\/a>, spcaLA<\/a>, Seal Beach Animal Care Center<\/a> and Orange County Animal Care<\/a>. Participants will meet at LBACS\u2019s parking lot, pass out items at the Long Beach locations, and either caravan to the other shelters or just do Long Beach, if preferred.
