{"id":3817,"date":"2013-06-07T08:19:30","date_gmt":"2013-06-07T08:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/life\/todd-cancer-institute-at-long-beach-memorial-unveils-10-foot-ray-of-hope-beacon-unveiled-2\/"},"modified":"2013-06-07T08:19:30","modified_gmt":"2013-06-07T08:19:30","slug":"todd-cancer-institute-at-long-beach-memorial-unveils-10-foot-ray-of-hope-beacon-unveiled-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/todd-cancer-institute-at-long-beach-memorial-unveils-10-foot-ray-of-hope-beacon-unveiled-2","title":{"rendered":"Todd Cancer Institute at  Long Beach Memorial Unveils  10-Foot \u201cRay of Hope\u201d Beacon Unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-25158\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/beacon_of_hope.png\" alt=\"beacon of hope\" width=\"620\" height=\"890\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Cancer survivors and members of the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute team gathered in front of the new \u00a0Todd Cancer Pavilion to help turn on the \u201cRay of Hope\u201d for the first time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Cancer survivors and a team from the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Memorial came together to observe National Cancer Survivors Day and commemorated another Todd Cancer Pavilion construction milestone by unveiling its symbolic \u201cRay of Hope\u201d beacon on Monday, June 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCancer is a difficult diagnosis to wrap your head around and having hope is so important to achieve the best possible outcome,\u201d says Cindy Gotz, Community Outreach Coordinator, MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute. \u201cThe Todd Cancer Pavilion provides a physical structure to embody a holistic approach to supporting our cancer survivors, from the time of diagnosis through active treatment and beyond. The \u201cRay of Hope\u201d illuminated on our building is a reminder that hope lives here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cancer survivors, and their families, gathered to listen to messages of hope and well-wishes from cancer survivors, and to witness the \u201cRay of Hope\u201d being turned on for the first time. The \u201cRay of Hope\u201d is a 10-foot tall ribbon that changes colors each month to represent different cancer awareness months and provide hope and inspiration to those touched by cancer. The beacon will now be on every night and can be seen from Long Beach Blvd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, I just have to say, that if we are here to observe cancer survivors day, then I\u2019ll take that,\u201d says Frank Dubbs. \u201cBut then I also now want a \u201cradiation\/oncology day,\u201d a \u201cCindy in radiation oncology day\u201d and a \u201cDr. Chan day\u201d because I wouldn\u2019t be standing here today without the Todd Cancer Institute and this team before me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new 65,000-square-foot Pavilion is an exciting step forward for cancer treatment in Long Beach. It will be a dedicated outpatient cancer facility that will house the many cancer programs and cancer support services that TCI offers, giving patients access to all they need under one roof.
