The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-LA) awarded the John Chase Visionary Award for Merit\u00a0Long Beach local Brian Ulaszewski for his contributions in urban design, writing, architecture and planning.<\/p>\n

His work, recognized through both his nonprofit City Fabrick as well as his individual and other professional endeavors (including being a contributor to the Post<\/em><\/a>), was noted not only for its critical thinking but his ability to demonstrate a passion for planning.<\/p>\n

Ulaszewski’s work revolves around a mix of both education and better living.<\/p>\n

For example, Park(d) Plaza, along 4th Street across from Berlin and Fingerprints, not only created an open, public space in a parking lot but provided stats–such as the gallons of paint used–on its painted facade.<\/p>\n

Armory Park–which can largely be considered Ulaszewski’s “baby”–will soon begin construction and not only eradicates one of Long Beach’s most dangerous intersections at 7th St. & Martin Luther King Blvd., but also provides much needed green space in a neighborhood which lacks it entirely.<\/p>\n
