Out of hundreds of nominations from our readers, judges chose 40 winners who run the gamut from educators to artists to business owners to community activists, all of whom represent just a selection of those who are today contributing to the betterment of Long Beach.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-24718\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mikeguardbascio.jpg\" alt=\"mikeguardbascio\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Mike in London covering the Olympics<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mike parlayed his love of local sports into an entire career, working first for the&nbsp;<em>Long Beach Post<\/em>&nbsp;and, for the last several years, with&nbsp;<em>Gazette<\/em>&nbsp;Newspapers, where last summer he covered Long Beach\u2019s multiple Olympians from on the ground in London.&nbsp;In addition to his role as a premiere sports journalist, Mike is a published author\u2014his book <em>Football in Long Beach<\/em> was released last year\u2014and also volunteers for the Century Club of Long
