Photo courtesy of the Museum of Latin American Art.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n MOLAA is on the move\u2014quite literally.<\/p>\n Following a $25,000 donation from Hyundai Motor America, Long Beach’s Museum of Latin American Art has decided to purchase a bus that will offer some 5,000 students throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area with free tours and art workshops.<\/p>\n The donation comes at a time when both museum and arts education monies are slim, particularly the latter. California’s budget crisis not only affected the classrooms themselves, but the areas outside of them: field trips to parks, museums and other cultural institutions have been almost if not entirely slashed.<\/p>\n “Over the past year, many teachers told us that the cost of bus transportation is the barrier that prevents them from bringing their classes to the museum,” said MOLAA President and CEO Stuart A. Ashman at the presentation of the check. “It seemed to me that if we could raise the money to purchase our own bus, we could provide our educational school tours and art workshop program to many more students.”<\/p>\n The bus program, slated MOLAA on the Move<\/em>, will target mostly Long Beach Unified and Los Angeles Unified schools while attempting to engage other Southern Californian school districts when possible.
