What would a typhoon do to an orchestra playing on a shipping barge in the middle of the ocean? You\u2019ll have to find out at Music Tastes Good this weekend, where five artists are preparing works for the two-day music, food and art festival. From colorful installations to live painting, here\u2019s a little preview of what to expect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year the artists were given the inspiration to deconstruct music, food and ART and how that comes together in a beautiful cacophony of creativity, collaboration and community,\u201d said Nicolassa Galvez, Music Tastes Good art director.<\/p>\n

Fine Scribbler by Copeland Holt<\/b><\/p>\n

Painter Copeland Holt\u2019s work is about as Long Beachesque as it gets. You can catch him outside behind his easel working on vibrant, painterly skylines of the city\u2019s most notable buildings far away from the confines of a studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier in my career I\u2019d lock myself in my studio and get a little too lost in my own head,\u201d Holt stated. \u201cIt started to become unhealthy. Now I really enjoy painting out in public whether Downtown or near the beach meeting people I\u2019d never meet otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n

He prefers to paint in public and his participation at MTG will be no exception. Holt will be live painting during the festival, so make sure to catch a glimpse of his process as you make your way to and from performances.<\/p>\n

This is artist Katherine Bingley\u2019s (KATBING) third year designing an installation for Music Tastes Good. You may recognize her work from the previous festivals, which included larger-than-life-size hand sculptures holding up the signs for peace, love and rock n\u2019 roll and a box mural inspired by song lyrics.<\/p>\n

Her artwork this year is inspired by an \u201cOrchestra Typhoon\u201d that plays off the festival\u2019s port cities theme. So what happens when \u201ca Music Tastes Good orchestra with a whole lotta color\u201d is hit with a whirling force of nature? You\u2019ll just have to wait and see.<\/p>\n

Live with Good Fortune by Bodeck Hernandez and Joon the Goon<\/b><\/p>\n

Brought together by the art-forward media company InspiredLBC<\/a>, artists Bodeck Hernandez and Joon the Goon have created an installation inspired by living life to the fullest and Filipino folklore believed to bring good fortune. Both have painted murals for POW! WOW! Long Beach and continue to elevate the local art scene with their impactful paintings and illustrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this piece they wish good fortune to all musicians, artists and everyone involved with Music Tastes Good,\u201d said InspiredLBC founder Josh Garcia.<\/p>\n

Josh\u2019s Mixtape by Jonelle Holden and Corey Wolford<\/b><\/p>\n

These two designers collaborate on large-scale installations with the intent to bring communities together with visual art. You may remember their gigantic mixtape from last year, honoring late MTG founder Joshua Fischel. This year, \u201cJosh\u2019s Mixtape\u201d will be back with Vol. 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to create an ode to the late MTG founder Joshua Fischel, with whom I\u2019ve had the pleasure of working on several productions in RIOTstage; to create shade (which is so needed at festivals) and a meet up point for people during the festival; to bridge all the generations through stories of the mixtape and the memories and emotions that songs invoke,\u201d Holden stated.<\/p>\n

Rock Altar by C. Dolim<\/b><\/p>\n

A self-described \u201cnonbinary ne\u2019er do well who creates visual magic for the queer kind,\u201d Dolim is a Long Beach-based artist dedicated to creating spaces for the LGBTQ+ community, including hosting a monthly queer night for artists and musicians.<\/p>\n

For MTG, Dolim created an altar \u201cfrom another world\u201d displaying a branch- and moss-covered nod to the hearts and souls of musical past.<\/p>\n
