{"id":4820,"date":"2011-12-28T11:05:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-28T11:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/life\/wayward-sons-headline-downtown-new-year-s-eve-celebration\/"},"modified":"2011-12-28T11:05:00","modified_gmt":"2011-12-28T11:05:00","slug":"wayward-sons-headline-downtown-new-year-s-eve-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/wayward-sons-headline-downtown-new-year-s-eve-celebration","title":{"rendered":"Wayward Sons Headline Downtown New Year&#8217;s Eve Celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>11:22am | <\/strong>Downtown Long Beach will host a celebration this New Year\u2019s Eve with two events featuring live performances by CPO &amp; The SAPS, Them Novus, Love Fool and celebrated 70s cover band Wayward Sons, beginning at 5:00pm Saturday, December 31.<\/p>\n<p>     Produced and co-sponsored by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), New Year\u2019s Eve in Downtown will begin with a free, family-friendly event in the Waterfront amphitheatre at Rainbow Harbor followed by a ticketed high-energy street party at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Broadway in the heart of Downtown Long Beach.<\/p>\n<p>     \u201cThere is a great deal of buzz and excitement about these New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations,\u201d said DLBA President and Chief Executive Officer Kraig Kojian. \u201cThe community is building on the success of last year\u2019s event and introducing some exciting new elements that will make for a spectacular evening in Downtown Long Beach, which features something for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>     Family-Friendly Free Waterfront Celebration at Rainbow Harbor 5:00pm to 10:00pm<\/strong><br \/>Beginning at 5 p.m., Downtown\u2019s waterfront amphitheatre will come alive with a flurry of family-friendly activities and roaming performers, including magicians, face painters and balloon artists. DJs and local live bands will serve up music, and a trackless train will offer free rides along the esplanade between the Aquarium of the Pacific and Shoreline Village.<\/p>\n<p>     Beginning at 6:00pm, CPO &amp; The Saps will take over the stage with a live performance of upbeat tunes that will keep the crowd going until 8 p.m. From there, Them Novus will play until 10:00pm, taking a brief break at 9:00pm as the East Coast countdown to midnight culminates with a 10-minute fireworks display from Rainbow Harbor\u2019s lighthouse peninsula.<\/p>\n<p><strong>     Wayward Sons Headlines Pine Avenue Celebration: 7:00pm to 2:00am<\/strong><br \/>As the first of two New Year\u2019s Eve fireworks displays in Downtown wraps up, the massive outdoor party will just be ramping up on Pine Avenue, from First to Third Streets.<\/p>\n<p>     Love Fool will open the show at 7:30pm with a rocking 90s set and in keeping with the countdown theme, they\u2019ll be back for an 80s mix that will set the tone for event headliner, Wayward Sons, a celebrated 70s cover band. Wayward Sons\u2019 high-energy performance will wow the crowd and will rock \u2018n roll through the countdown to 2012. At midnight, fireworks will again light up the sky for the New Year. Six outdoor bar areas will serve a variety of spirits, allowing guests to enjoy food and beverages throughout the venue without missing a minute of live music.<\/p>\n<p>     Advance tickets are available for the Pine Avenue New Year\u2019s Eve Celebration for $10 each, with a limited amount of discount packages including VIP parking and two event tickets available for $27. Advance tickets purchased online at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downtownlongbeach.org\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.downtownlongbeach.org<\/a>, through Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 5:00pm, will be mailed to attendees. Tickets purchased online after that date and time must be picked up in person (with valid ID) at the DLBA offices located at 100 West Broadway, Ste 120, Long Beach, CA 90802 on Thursday and Friday, December 29 and 30, 2011 between 8:30am and 5:00pm, or at George\u2019s Greek Caf\u00e9 located at 135 Pine Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802 on Saturday, December 31, 2011 between noon and 6:00pm.
