{"id":493,"date":"2018-09-20T15:57:37","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T22:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/?p=999919401"},"modified":"2018-09-20T15:57:37","modified_gmt":"2018-09-20T22:57:37","slug":"snoop-dogg-play-musical-long-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/music\/snoop-dogg-play-musical-long-beach","title":{"rendered":"Snoop Dogg&#8217;s stage musical will make one stop in Long Beach on nationwide tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Beach rapper, musician, and all-around local lover Snoop Dogg has always been active from a community standpoint\u2014but lately, it&#8217;s more pronounced and I&#8217;ve noted repeatedly that as he ages, he is reflecting more.<\/p>\n<p>Snoop Dogg\u2019s \u201creturn home\u201d has prompted the creation of things that are seemingly out of the ordinary for a kid who was raised in the epicenter of local gang life during the late 80s and 1990s:\u00a0He went back to church with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/4zeITicw3oKpOV5EMQIUQH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a gospel album<\/a>. He\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/longbeachize\/long-beach-music-scene-snoop-dogg-ice-cube-headline-summertime-lbc-festival\/\">returned to the LBC stage<\/a>\u00a0after a lengthy and politically influenced hiatus. He went to the kitchen for a television show (and scored an Emmy nomination) with Martha Stewart. He has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2N5UU5U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">written a cookbook<\/a>. He returned to Long Beach to offer some kids some <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/music\/using-vince-staples-youth-music-studio-in-long-beach-snoop-dogg-offers-producing-tips-to-budding-musicians-and-rappers\/\">free advice on creating music<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And now, the musical that reflects much of his own life will make <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.ticketmaster.com\/jecaryous-johnson-snoop-dogg-present-redemption-long-beach-california-11-17-2018\/event\/0B00550AAB104BA8?f_klarna_flex_pay=true&amp;ab=m_efeat5852v1\">one pitstop in Long Beach<\/a> on its nationwide tour.<br \/>\n<iframe class=\"elementor-video-iframe\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/284077718?color&amp;autopause=0&amp;loop=0&amp;muted=0&amp;title=1&amp;portrait=1&amp;byline=1#t=\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<em>Redemption of a Dogg<\/em>, written and directed by\u00a0Je\u2019Caryous Johnson\u2014the man behind the stage version of the classic 1990s crime film\u00a0<em>Set It Off\u2014<\/em>and starring Snoop himself, chronicles the life of a Snoop-like character and &#8220;examines\u00a0the internal battle one man has between preserving his lifelong legacy and losing the love of his life when he is faced with choosing fame and fortune over faith and family,&#8221; Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just partnered up with my main man\u00a0Je&#8217;Caryous Johnson\u00a0on a play\u2014that\u2019s right y&#8217;all,\u201d Snoop\u00a0<a title=\"says\" href=\"ttps:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BmQ3TYYg4ws\/?hl=en&amp;taken-by=snoopdogg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>\u00a0in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p>Music from the entirety of Snoop&#8217;s career\u2014from his recent gospel album all the way back to his debut, <em>Doggystyle<\/em>, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary\u2014will be featured throughout the play, making it part concert and part storytelling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www1.ticketmaster.com\/jecaryous-johnson-snoop-dogg-present-redemption-long-beach-california-11-17-2018\/event\/0B00550AAB104BA8?f_klarna_flex_pay=true&amp;ab=m_efeat5852v1\">Redemption of a Dogg <em>will be at the Terrace Theater in Downtown Long Beach on Nov. 17.
