11:36am | <\/strong>Sunday October 2nd at 9:00pm, Artful Thinking\u2019s “Out at the Movies” will be screening 3-time Emmy nominated film Becoming Chaz<\/em> at the Art Theatre of Long Beach for an HIV\/AIDS and Breast Cancer Benefit.<\/p>\n

Becoming Chaz <\/em>is a documentary of the life of Chaz Salvatore Bono (born Chastity Sun Bono), a transgender<\/span> advocate, writer<\/span>, actor<\/span>, and musician<\/span>. Bono is the only child of musical duo Sonny<\/span> and Cher<\/span>. Bono is a female-to-male<\/span> transgender man.<\/p>\n

Becoming Chaz<\/em> premiered to positive reviews at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with the Los Angeles Times calling the film \u201cwildly engaging.\u201d The Hollywood Reporter said, \u201cBecoming Chaz is a real-life look inside the home and hearts of two brave and glorious individuals. Told with finesse, compassion and wit\u2026.will hit nerves and touch hearts.\u201d AOL Moviefone called it \u201can engaging and educational look at one person’s journey to make his outsides match his inside,\u201d and CNN called it \u201cincredibly moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chaz explained to the audience why he chose to do the movie. “I wanted to do this because I wanted to help people,” he said. “And I knew that…I could put a face on this issue that people just don’t understand because it’s a hard one to understand. I wanted to be able to change people’s hearts and minds on this.”
