From a groundbreaking art opening at Cal State Long Beach\u2019s University Art Museum to the 14th annual Japanese Classic Car Show, there\u2019s no shortage of things to do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>California Coastal Clean-Up Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_999918725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-999918725\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-999918725 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/cleanupday-970x646.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-999918725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo from the Aquarium of the Pacific.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Saturday morning, the Aquarium of the Pacific will be cleaning up the beach at the end of the Peninsula as part of the statewide clean-up day. You can help, too, by assisting aquarium staff with picking up trash and protecting our oceans. Gloves and bags will be provided on site.<\/p>\n<p>The clean-up will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Look for the Aquarium tent to check in. A Tiki Art Rumble! is opening at MADE by Millworks hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GargantuasArtCollective\/\">Gargantuas Art Collective<\/a>. Seven short films, four feature narratives (including a free screening of \u201cThe Joy Luck Club\u201d on Sunday), three feature documentaries and a live one-woman show all take place this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Film festival screenings begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and run all day Sunday. Photo courtesy of the University Art Museum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dallas-based artist lauren woods\u2019 sound installation is the centerpiece of this new exhibit at Cal State Long Beach\u2019s University Art Museum, an exhibit transforming the space into a monument examining \u201cthe cultural conditions under which African-Americans have lost their lives to police violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis monument serves to contemplate and critically engage the systemic violence that we help to maintain, not specific victims or localized instances,\u201d woods said in a statement. \u201cMy hope is that people will use it as a tool to help clarify where and how they can personally work to help end the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The launch reception takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. and the exhibit runs through Dec. 9. It\u2019s free and open to the public, but RSPVs are requested. One of the artist&#8217;s most known pieces is \u201cPaisajes,\u201d where she uses her own body as a canvas and blends into her own painting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCecelia Paredes is a peerless pioneer that embodies a vibrant spirit that we are pleased to feature at our museum,\u201d\u00a0Lourdes Ramos, president and CEO of the Museum of Latin American Art, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The museum&#8217;s Portfolio Series shows rotating masterworks by modern and contemporary Latin American and Latino artists in The Contemplation Deck, a rotating gallery space. This exhibit will run through December 30.
