11:20am | <\/strong>Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske\u2019s second Shaping Up the Fifth Event joined residents with the councilwoman as they walked the neighborhood east of Studebaker Road and north of Wardlow Road.  The group found 245 issues in need of improvement. <\/p>\n

\u201cSome residents walked solo, some in pairs, and they all noted issues on cards,\u201d Schipske explains. \u201cSidewalks were worst, with 115 elevated or in need of other repair.\u201d <\/p>\n

There were a combined 69 Code Enforcement issues; 29 cases of trees in need of trimming; 23 cards note streets have potholes or \u201calligatoring\u201d, which is multiple cracks and cratering; there were seven cases of standing water; one sign needs replacement and one resident found graffiti.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is only the beginning for the neighborhood,\u201d notes Schipske. \u201c We will process those service requests and city crews going on them. Residents can keep tabs on repairs by themselves going to my council website, and clicking on the maps, which are updated every two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next Shaping Up Event is August 27th, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM in El Dorado Park South.  It will cover the triangular area from Studebaker Road to Steely Avenue and from Stearns Street to the 405 Freeway.<\/p>\n

Residents are advised to wear comfortable shoes, hats, and sunblock, bring water, and meet at the Stearns Street and Volk Inlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf more people turn out, it\u2019s easier for each walker and they can take more time to really look things over,\u201d Schipske says. \u201cIt\u2019s also more fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
