It\u2019s one of the first events in a six-month series aimed at marking the 100th anniversary of Calbraith \u201cCal\u201d Perry Rodgers\u2019 first transcontinental flight from Sheepshead Bay, N.Y., to Long Beach, Calif., Sept.17 through Dec. 10, 1911. <\/span>

\u201cThis movie was released in 1965, but it is every bit as funny now,\u201c said Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, who is hosting the event and spearheading the anniversary celebration. <\/span>
  <\/span>
The movie is set in 1910, one year before Rodgers\u2019 flight. A British newspaper offers a 10,000-pound prize for the first person to fly across the English Channel.  It has many sub-plots and many familiar stars, including Stuart Whitman, Sarah Miles, Robert Morley, Red Skelton, Terry Thomas and Benny Hill. <\/span>

\u201cWe Can Soar\u201d trip-for-two opportunity tickets will be on sale at the movie,  $10 for one, $50 for six. The winner will be drawn at the We Can Soar Hangar Dance and Dinner on Oct. 29. <\/span>

There will be another aviation themed movie at El Dorado Park August 25th. The Great Waldo Pepper is about how one pilot uses post-World War I stunts to prove himself, when he missed out on the war. <\/span>
