7:15pm |<\/strong> In honor of <\/a><\/a><\/a>LGBT Pride Month, Artful Thinking’s “Out at the Movies” is proud to present a screening of the film Making the Boys at the Art Theatre on Thursday, June 23.<\/p>\n

Before Proposition 8, <\/em>Milk or “Will & Grace,” before the AIDS epidemic, gay pride parades or the Stonewall Uprising, <\/em>The Boys in the Band changed everything. <\/em>Making the Boys explores the drama, struggle and enduring legacy of the first-ever gay play and subsequent Hollywood movie to successfully reach a mainstream audience. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Beloved by some for breaking new ground, and condemned by others for reinforcing gay stereotypes, <\/em>The Boys in the Band sparked heated controversy that still exists four decades later.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The screening begins at 9 p.m. at the Art Theater, 2025 E. Fourth St.<\/span><\/p>\n

Artful Thinking<\/a> is a Long Beach-based nonprofit that engages in artful activities related to educating the public about HIV\/AIDS and Breast Cancer as well as providing prevention program information on these two very important health issues through community-based events. Once a month at the Art Theater, the organization hosts <\/span><\/a><\/a><\/a>Out at the Movies, where for $11 at the box office or $10 in advance, you can screen films “made with a queer lens.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
