We tried to choose among the photos of Sterling that this rescuer sent and finally decided that we had to do two of them \u2014 one for his appearance (gorgeous gunmetal silver) and the other to show \u2014 well, let\u2019s say that he\u2019ll show you a good time. He\u2019s obviously one in a million and has a heck of a lot of energy. He\u2019s healthy as a horse, is about 2 years old, weighs about 65 pounds, has been neutered and vaccinated and loves people and dogs (females only). Twelve-year-old Sasha\u2019s mom has had him since he was a pup and now has to move from her home. She cannot take Sasha with her. Sasha is a champagne-colored shih tzu-poodle mix who is social with other animals and good with kids. He\u2019s not a barker, and is very sweet. He\u2019s been neutered and is healthy other than a few noncontagious warts (we all have those). If you\u2019re interested in spending some golden years with a golden buddy, call 562-310-8273.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cleopatra<\/em><\/strong>
This is a horrible photo of a horrible situation, but this is why we write this column <\/span>\u2014 to show the effects of neglect and abuse. Cleopatra is a shih tzu \u2014 age not given, but she is a senior \u2014 who was delivered at a shelter for euthanizing by someone who said he didn\u2019t want to have anything more to do with her. She is now under the mentorship of the Bumper Foundation and Mary\u2019s Little Lambs. She is presently undergoing treatment from two canine specialists: an ophthalmologist and a dentist, and it ain\u2019t cheap. Donations are needed for her care. Send an e-mail to hlsr1218@gmail.com for ways to help and other information. This little girl may need a home when she\u2019s feeling better.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adopt and Shop Featured Pets<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our last article introduced you to a new type of venue for adopting shelter pets. Adopt and Shop offers a friendly, welcoming pet store atmosphere for adopting shelter animals, with all of the accoutrements you could want and none of the negatives, like animals with dubious parentage from mothers who\u2019ve been literally bred to death. Varda, an adult female terrier mix, is a mellow, friendly girl who’s looking for the right home. She’s playful and gets along with most dogs. She appears to be housebroken and would be a good family dog.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spay\/Neuter License Plates (exclusive to state of California)<\/strong><\/em>
There\u2019s still time to preorder the California Spay\/Neuter license plate designed by actor Pierce Brosnan. All proceeds from the plates will provide funding for free or low-cost pet-altering surgeries in shelters across California and help raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce the pet overpopulation. ACS Low-cost Vaccination and Licensing Clinics<\/em><\/strong>
Low-cost pet clinics are scheduled every month in Long Beach to provide residents with a one-stop shop for vaccination, microchipping and licensing services. The next Animal Care Services clinic will be held Saturday, June 11, at Cesar Chavez Park, 401 Golden Ave. Clinics will provide low-cost vaccinations and licensing to Long Beach residents and pets. No reservation is necessary. Credit cards and checks are accepted for licensing, but only cash is accepted for vaccinations.
