\"\"10:03am |<\/strong> Sean Moor, who launched Gatsby Books<\/a> about 6 months ago, has been hard at work creating opportunities for the literary-minded to gather: Poetry readings; author visits; open mic nights; music performances; events specifically for kids; and reading groups. According to Sean, his goal is no less than to make Gatsby Books the “literary heart of Long Beach.” It should come as no surprise, then, that he recently announced the lauch of the 1st Annual Gatsby Books Short Film Festival, taking place on Friday, February 25th at 7 PM.  <\/p>\n

I asked Sean how a film festival fits into that goal.<\/p>\n

Sean<\/strong>: The Short Film Festival that we are hosting late next month expands upon our usual mix of book clubs and poetry discussions, and introduces my literary friends to some really talented filmmakers, whose work is entertaining, inventive and never boring.<\/p>\n

Sander<\/strong>: Do you have any advice for those interested in submitting work?<\/em><\/p>\n

Sean<\/strong>: Be original. Shoot in any format, but submit on DVD. Include your name, contact info, and a short synopsis of the film\/video. And most importantly, do not exceed the 10 minutes max running time. The entry deadline is on Feb 19th at 5pm. You can mail\/drop off your dvd at Gatsby Books, which is located at 5535 E. Sander<\/strong>: Will there be some sort of jury selection process? Is there a ‘winner’ or ‘prize’?<\/em><\/p>\n

Sean<\/strong>: The selection process is simple: We’ll watch all the entries and create the best one-night only program of short independent films from the submissions. Selected filmmakers will receive a handsome silkscreen print honoring their participation, as well as enthusiastic applause.
