10:20am |<\/strong> Whether you’re fishing for candy or dishing it out, the lbpost.com wants to wish our readers a very safe and happy Halloween in Long Beach this weekend. Below are a few fun events for the kids, the adults and everyone in between on this spookiest of evenings.<\/p>\n

Starting off with a few basic safety tips, make sure that your little trick-or-treaters are accompanied – especially if they’re under 10 years old – and crossing the streets at intersections and not mid-block, says Desiree Thomas of the Miller Children’s Hospital Safety Coalition. Make sure children know their home phone number or cell phone number of parents and how to call 9-1-1 if they get separated. Give children flashlights and advise them to stay local and travel in groups. Throw out candy that isn’t sealed or could have spoiled.<\/p>\n

Some of the local events are actually being held today, so let’s get to those first. The first annual Halloween Carnival at Bixby Park will be held today from 11:00am-3:00pm and hosts a costume contest and pumpkin carving contest. Each contest costs $2 to enter, but there are plenty of prizes to be had. Actors will perform works from Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley.<\/p>\n

Also today, the West East-Side Community Association (WESCA) will hold the eighth annual Orizaba Park Halloween Carnival from 4:00pm and on for a fun and safe atmosphere with candy, carnival games, a moon bounce and much more. Orizaba Park is at the intersection of Orizaba Avenue and Spaulding Street.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, on actual Hallow’s Eve, the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance (WANA) hosts its fourth annual Halloween Party from 6:00-8:30pm at 20th Street and Daisy Avenue with a costume contest beginning at 7:00pm sharp.<\/p>\n

The big party creeps into downtown Long Beach on Sunday around 6:00pm as the Downtown Long Beach Associates hosts Halloween In Downtown. More than thirty businesses will offer $5 food and drink specials as part of an “adult trick-or-treat” that also features a scavenger hunt with a $250 Downtown Gift Card at stake for the 21-and-over crowd.
