2:00pm |<\/strong> My sister outed my brother when I was about 13 years old. Oddly, my brother\u2019s girlfriend at the time, later to become his wife, even later still to become his ex-wife when he finally came out of the closet, was riding in the car with us. She was in full agreement with my sister. From the backseat of the car I can feel myself getting angry. I yell at my sister and she recants. It\u2019s just that he seems to always be hanging out with the boys, she explains. She assures me though that she was kidding and that he is absolutely not gay.<\/p>\n

Cut to a couple years later. I\u2019m 15 years old sneaking out of my bedroom window to hitchhike into town where I\u2019m working the front door of a disco. My boss is gay. Any number of the people who come here are gay. I don\u2019t remember being upset by any of this. What I remember is the hottest senior at my high school inquiring about my break schedule after I let her in the club for free. We end up dating for a few glorious months.<\/p>\n

For that unforgettable time in my life I owe you, my gay brothers and sisters, a debt I can never fully repay.<\/p>\n
