1:00am |<\/strong> The Arts Education Summit<\/a>, created through a collaboration between the Arts Council for Long Beach and the Los Angeles County Office of Education, is taking place tomorrow at the Hotel Maya from 9 AM – 3 PM. Registration<\/a> is still available for $20, but ends at 3 PM today. It includes lunch, a presentation by Eric Booth<\/a>, and one of several targeted breakout sessions. <\/p>\n

Panelists include Danielle Brazell, Executive Director of Arts for LA<\/a>, Leslie Gibb, President of the Long Beach PTA<\/a>, Jack Mitchell, who helped to establish the Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA) standards for the State, and Scott Ward, Executive Director of the Armory Center for the Arts<\/a> in Pasadena. <\/p>\n

Breakout sessions are targeted to specific audiences, including K-5 teachers, 6-8 grade teachers, parents, artists, and administrators. <\/p>\n

The event is part of a State-wide effort, led by the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association<\/a> (CCSESA). Geraldine Walkup, the Visual and Performing Arts Administrator for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and our regional CCSESA coordinator, said, “The California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) Arts Initiative advocates for and strengthens arts education in California schools. The Arts Summit is just 1 of 11 statewide regional forums supported by the initiative, that intends to bring together parents, educators, artists, and business partners, to collaboratively support arts education for all children.” <\/p>\n

The event is sponsored, in part, by Boeing, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the LA County Arts Commission, Arts for All, the CSSESA Arts Initiative, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and the City of Long Beach. <\/p>\n
