Photo courtesy of Happy Sundays.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A homegrown music festival organized by a Long Beach couple will bring more than 20 local bands out to play at multiple venues throughout the Zaferia district on <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/life\/7-things-to-do-in-long-beach-starting-friday-and-this-weekend\/\">Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the third time that husband-wife duo Julia Kugel and Scott Montoya have brought Happy Sundays to life, giving event goers a reason to explore the historic East Anaheim Street corridor. Eight different venues, including Los Altos Plaza Park, Alex\u2019s Bar, diPiazza\u2019s and Red Leprechaun are hosting sets during the free one-day music festival.<\/p>\n<p>Featured artists include Jake Snider of Minus the Bear, The Shrine, Caught a Ghost, White Woods and more.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya said he and Julia are hoping to catch a little bit of every performance, but that they\u2019re especially excited about seeing Long Beach artists Rudy De Anda and Spare Parts for Broken Hearts play, as well as Death Valley Girls, No Tides, Early Grey, Paranoyds, Audacity and Devil Season.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"4csTX1Mi6C\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/music\/devil-season-is-all-year-round-this-local-band-forges-its-own-path\">Devil Season is all year round: This local band forges its own path<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Devil Season is all year round: This local band forges its own path&#8221; &#8212; the Hi-lo\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/music\/devil-season-is-all-year-round-this-local-band-forges-its-own-path\/embed\/#?secret=a5mSirXE6n#?secret=4csTX1Mi6C\" data-secret=\"4csTX1Mi6C\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHappy Sundays means what it says, it\u2019s just a happy day with a bunch of free music and good vibes,\u201d Montoya said. \u201cAnyone familiar with my wife and\/or my work will appreciate the sentiment and personalization put into this event. It all comes from a loving place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Julia and Scott have varied musical histories as members of bands. Singing and songwriting for Atlanta-based The Coathangers, Julia now uses her writing and vocal talents in White Woods, in which she and her husband will perform at Red Leprechaun.<\/p>\n<p>Scott said he hopes Happy Sundays will feel like a \u201cbreath of fresh air\u201d to attendees, and that they go home feeling relaxed and happy after discovering new artists and meeting new people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_999915923\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-999915923\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-999915923 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/juliascott-970x623.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"385\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-999915923\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Julia and Scott Montoya, organizers of Happy Sundays. Photo courtesy of Happy Sundays.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<p>The first Happy Sundays took place in February of last year at Alex&#8217;s Bar, vintage clothing shop From the Moon and with a pop-up shop by local artist collective Grab Bag Studio. While past festival dates have been scattered, the duo hopes to establish the growing event as an annual occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat makes this fest different from the others is it&#8217;s not Goldenvoice or Live Nation organizing Happy Sundays, it&#8217;s Julia and Scott Montoya,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Sundays takes place on Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
