Boxer Briefs: Animal Legislation<\/em>

We\u2019ve been coming out in favor of the above bills because we feel that they\u2019ll benefit animals, help curb pet overpopulation and be another nail in the puppy mill coffin\u2014for the millers, that is. Judie Mancuso, who makes the term “tireless advocate” seem inadequate for description, presents her unobstructed view on detractors of both bills.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho could be against this legislation?\u201d she asks. \u201cThe vast majority of opposition to animal-friendly legislation comes from one group underground animal breeders who fear that new legislation will affect their unscrupulous businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither of these bills targets reputable breeders. To the folks who state that this is a law intended to get rid of all pets, we\u2019ll get all Barney Frank on you: What planet do you live on? and introduce you to a dining-room table. Even more fun, one of the bill\u2019s biggest opponents, PetPac\u2019s Bill Hemby, is being sued by the California Department of Justice in Operation False Charity. Read about it here<\/a>. Sept 5, Animal Acres Gala<\/span>
Honorary gala chair Ellen DeGeneres invites you to attend the Animal Acres 2009 Gala celebration on Saturday, September 5. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with the \u201cCowtail Party,\u201d where celebrity hosts, award recipients and gala guests meet and mingle with the sanctuary’s \u201cguests of honor\u201d\u2014over 150 rescued cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens, sheep and goats.
