We couldn’t thank Claudia Horvath more for her editorial on the Governor’s tax on veterinary health care. How is it that a living creature’s health and life are luxuries? As for the human companions, they’re being taxed enough as it is; taxing them further, as Ms. Horvath puts it, will not only add stress to their financial worries but also to worrying about paying for their companion’s health or even having to have them euthanized.<\/p>\n
Our personal hero\/crusader, Judie Mancuso (Social Compassion and Legislation), has also sent a page to us (see below) that has details of, links for and addresses of contacts for the proposed sales tax. She told us that a special session to pass the “luxury” taxes that include veterinary services will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, and may be decided as early as Sunday.<\/p>\n
“There is a sense of urgency here,” Mancuso said. “If you don’t have time to call all the numbers, definitely call the governor—it’s his proposal.”<\/p>\n
Appliances, furniture and cars may not exactly be luxury items either, but they can be disposed of or cheaper items can be purchased. There are no “cheaper items” when it comes to our companion animals, and if they break, you don’t throw them away.
